It's not a bad thing that the players are playing abroad during the WPS offseason.
It'll just better their soccer skills and have more experience in the games.
The more games you play, the better you'll get, right?
So, hopefully it'll transpire on the field for next WPS season.

I think it is a good idea for some of WPS players to abroad during off season, especially for some players under the radar.

I also think it is a good idea for the players to play abroad during the offseason if they can afford it. Especially the recent college grads who could really benefit from expanding their playing knowledge.

Maybe I don't get it but it seems to me that they actually play here in the US in their off season ... Am I missing something?

Depends on your prospective and the league they are loaned out to. But the Westfield league is the only one I can think of that doesn't interfer with the WPS schedule. With a couple exceptions the player's priority is to the WPS schedule so I would say they are playing abroad during the WPS off-season.

Part of a Q&A w/ Jim Gabarra:

You’ve got a couple of Freedom players on loan and some keeping busy with their respective national teams. How important is it for the Freedom’s performance next season that these players continue to play competitively, even with other teams?
I think it is important for the player’s development to get out into a different environment and most importantly get games. We can offer the best training but at this time our season is short and they need to be in that competitive match environment for at least 3 months of our offseason.
