I was very excited to see that 2010 season tickets are on sale.
However, I was suprised to see that a full season, at least for the Sol, amounts to 8 games. Is next season going to be shorter? I suppose for a 9 team league it makes sense to play 16 games, one home and one away against each team. Is that how next year will work?
To qualify as a pro league there is a rule that each team must play at least a 20 game schedule so the least amount of home games for the Sol would be 10. I have heard it will be closer to 12 home games, meaning a 24 game schedule. Each team playing each other 3 times. This is going off unconfirmed reports, and unreliable blogs but it does make sense.
I went ahead and checked what the other teams were offering. Philly, Chicago, and the Gold Pride all specifically say season ticket packages are for 10 games, which would indeed indicate a 20-game season. Boston, Atlanta, SkyBlue, and St. Louis don't say anything about a number of games. The Freedom mention 12 games, which would work if the league were going to have everyone play each other 3 times for 24 games total, as chevy suggests. But the Freedom are a very active club and maybe the other two games are friendlies?
I'm still left wondering why the heck the Sol are only selling season tickets for 8 home games.
