Somebody will take Brianna Scurry fairly quickly, but the only two teams that don't have any goalkeeper on their roster at this point are Sky Blue and Los Angeles. One of those two team will take Scurry in the first round.

I think Washington has the first pick and if that is the case, I am thinking they might take Tiffeny Milbrett, a proven goal scorer with lots of experience, plus obvious name recognition on the US National Team. The question is whether she is even registered, since these players all need to be registered for this draft, before they can be chosen.

Looking at Washington's roster, they have a goalkeeper, Erin McLeod, throught discovery rights. They look to be strong at defense and midfield. I've got to believe they will want another scorer to go along with Wambach, and there is no guarantee that they will be able to sign DeVanna.

I am interested to see how many of the veteran players get chosen, such as Scurry, Brandi Chastain and Milbrett. These experienced players could make or break a successful first season. I also am excited to see more international players take the field. I cannot wait to watch the games in April....

I maybe off base here but I think the first round will be spent drafting the international discovery players because I believe I read somewhere that in order to have full rights to them they have to be drafted by that team or else they go back into the player pool. I think Chastain has a solid chance of being drafted by the Bay Area team, like Lilly with Boston, I don't think she would play anywhere else.

I think that some international players will be taken in this draft, but I think that the league has said that the player must register or put in an application with the league in order to be available to be drafted in this draft. From the comments I have read concerning players that were taken in the international draft a few days ago, many did not know anything about the WPS draft, especially the European players. I am also guessing that many international players are already under contract elsewhere and will be hesitant to register for this draft while still under contract with another team.

Another issue is how many international players will be allowed on each team's roster. Each team already has the negotiating rights to 4 or 5 international players, although obviously they probably won't be able to sign them all.

It will be interesting to see how this draft plays out. I imagine we are going to see some pretty diverse strategies among the 7 teams.

I'm not sure about the 8 players that have already been awarded to teams as discovery players. I assumed that it was as if they had already been drafted and the teams already had full negotiating rights for those players, but I could definitely be wrong there. I know that St. Louis got discovery rights on Ingvild Stensland of Norway and Eniola Aluko of England and they are listed as being on the team's roster.

Domestic players only have to register if they aren't in the W-league or the WPSL. It is unclear about international players but I assume seeing as none were told about their international draft selections, and none have outwardly expressed an interest in the league that the international picks will continue as they did in the international draft.

I see what you mean that only certain domestic players have to register and it doesn't mention international players having to register. Thanks for pointing that out!

I still think it will be more weighted to domestic players, although there will definitely be some international picks. The only domestic players drafted so far are the WNT members. There is a pretty good talent pool here in the US, including former WNT members and recent college graduates, who haven't had the chance to be drafted yet.

It's definitely going to be interesting!

Tiffeny won't break anything. lol. She can't break anything, if anything she'll make that team better than any team out there :)
