Unlike Los Angeles, the Bay Area team represents many cities, thus more difficult to name and associate with a particular city. If the team gets a name linked with San Francisco or a specific city it would serve to isolate other cities and fans since we only have one team to share for the region...

So name 'em the Bay Area Lightning...all kinds of promotional ideas come to mind

Honestly I like using the "BAY AREA" moniker to. It worked well for the CyberRays in year one. Never understood why they changed to San Jose.

A lot of people have been tossing out the name "Aftershock(s)" which I think is fitting for all cities in the Bay. I agree with the "Bay Area" label, it doesn't alienate fans living in other parts of the bay.

Dan, have you heard anything about how much season tix will be? Do you also follow the Quakes? Tough game last night, eh?

Don't get me started on the Quakes game. If I ever see that referee he better run the other way. >:(

As for season tickets, I've not a clue. I imagine they'll be cheap compared to the Quakes tickets. But then it all comes down to the venue. One way or another I hope they announce the name and venue soon. Aftershocks works for me. Anything but CyberRays and FC in my book is an improvement.

Had anyone considered the San Jose Meteors for the Bay Area team name. It would be a homage IMO to the Lick Observatory that is visible from any point in the South Bay and the important firsts and discoveries that have happened there. Could even have Hamilton Lion in homage to the Mountain Lions that live in the eastern hills as a mascot.

Why don't just stick to San Jose Cyber Rays? (the Old WUSA's name), like The Washington Freedom & Boston Breakers.
WUSA's fans, is still around, the well known San Jose team, they knew, is San Jose Cyber Rays. (only things is chance the team color).

Only two problems with this. One, we don't even know if the WPS team is going to be based in San Jose. Number 2, the CyberRays name usually evoked a lot of "WTF is a CyberRay" more than any sense of pride.

Well we may not have heard anything from the Bay Area WPS team in weeks but word came down last night at the Earthquakes event that the WPS team has been actively looking to play at Buck Shaw after all. And if not at Buck Shaw they'll be playing very close to it. So through that I'd say it's safe to infer that San Jose will be the home of the women's team within the Bay Area.

What exactly is a CyberRay?

I wonder who came up with that one.

I think it was supposed to be a reference to CyberSpace (computer link locally) and a type of ray that lives off the California coast. But yes it was such a muddled reference that no one actually ever got it.

Looks like Bay Area or San Jose Pride is going to be the team name and black and yellow are the team colors.

Bay Area team is going to be named FC Gold Pride. They just made the announcement at the press conference.
