I think Mia's moved on to other things - I'll be quite happy if we get Abby back.

Bring along the twins, I'll be happy. Come visit us often...even if you do live across the country.

I know, right!? We better get Abby!

Just talked with sales rep Danielle Hitzeman. What she could tell me:

- There will be ten home games total, seven at the Soccerplex and three at RFK as doubleheaders with DC United. All of the games at the Soccerplex will be on the weekend, preferably Saturdays at 7 pm.

- The first big press conference will be September 23 at RFK. At the conference, they will reintroduce the team, unveil the new logo, release information on season ticket plans, and introduce the three WNT players allocated to the team.

The Soccerplex is in Maryland, right? That's ridiculous...it's too far away for me. I'll definitely be at those doubleheaders....2 of the best women/men's pro teams in one night? :)

I'm happy with the WPS allocation today, especially when Washington Freedom get Abby & Ali back, and get Cat.
Don't know 'bout guys, I don't quite like the new Washington Freedom logo. I prefer the Old one, why don't they just maintain the Old logo?.
And where is the rests of Washington Freedom Fans?
Anyway, Go Freedom

I agree...the old logo looked better.

I hated the old logo - always thought it was creepy and had nothing to do with Washington. This one has some local influence instead of being this freaky headless soccer-playing angel or whatever the old logo was supposed to be.

WPS draft Monday: Chastain in, Gabarra thinking
WPS draft Monday: Chastain in, Gabarra thinking
Posted 10/2/2008 6:22 PM EDT

The deadline for entering Monday's Women's Professional Soccer draft is Friday, and Brandi Chastain has confirmed that she has tossed in her name.

"Yes, I did," Chastain said Thursday by phone. "Two days ago, I filled out my little form online. I've done all the proper stuff, which I normally don't do. Hopefully, I did it accurately."

Chastain is 40 but still active, playing soccer when she can and prepping for the New York City Marathon, as she discussed recently in the Game On! blog. She said she's not necessarily expecting to go early, though. Bay Area, the closest team to her home, picks second.

The Washington Freedom are on the clock with the first pick in the draft, and coach Jim Gabarra -- who coached the team throughout its WUSA history and the last five years in the W-League and elsewhere -- is considering his options.

Gabarra and Sky Blue, the New York-New Jersey team, are in the unusual position of having existing teams that have played in the W-League, and Gabarra would like to keep a few players home.

"Our strategy for this coming draft was how many of our W-League players can we hold onto," Gabarra says.

One of those players is Christie Welsh, a tall forward who has 39 national team appearances. Gabarra said she's among the players he's considering, though he's already off to a good start up front with Abby Wambach returning to Washington.

The Freedom also have the rights to Ali Krieger, an Olympic alternate who played with the club in the W-League but is currently with European champion Frankfurt.

WPS will have live updates on the draft, starting at 2 p.m. ET Monday, and Fox Soccer Channel plans a recap on Fox Football Fone-In at 8 p.m. ET. Will Nick and Steve complain that WPS doesn't have promotion and relegation?

How about Christie & Abby leading the Washington Freedom attack!?

I wasn't all that impressed with Christie Welsh this past season with the W-League team - she took an incredible number of shots (81) but had a heck of a time getting them on target. She only scored 9 times. The players I'd like to see us keep - in about this order - are Lori Lindsey, Emily Janss (probably my favorite player on the W-League team), and Kele Golebiowski. After that, we can think about Casey Zimny, Christie Welsh, Becky Sauerbrunn, and some of the others.

Can anyone tell me how the SoccerPlex is going to deal with reporters and put them up for the game? There are no press boxes or anything at the stadium (though I admit it is a nice one).

I kind of like Kele Golebiowski, you think The Washington Freedom will take her?
