Women's Professional Soccer

The following ten women (in alphabetical order) are in contention for the title of FIFA Women's World Player 2009;

Nadine Angerer (Germany), Sonia Bompastor (France), Cristiane (Brazil), Inka Grings (Germany), Mana Iwabuchi (Japan), Simone Laudehr (Germany), Marta (Brazil), Birgit Prinz (Germany), Kelly Smith (England) and Abby Wambach (USA).

One question where is Hope Solo on this list? She allowed 1 international goal all year and was arguably the best goalkeeper in WPS. What else does she need to do?

Much too much love given to Germany on this list.

Others I think should have been considered are Ramona Bachmann(Swiss) and Camille Abily(France).

Who do you think should be on this list? Who do you think should win?

In my mind, Inka Grings has accomplished more than Marta has this year.

you my friend, are absolutely right.
I know and admitt than Marta is the best in the world, but not the whole year of 2009, she not there,
Inka Grings my friend is the answer.
As I say earlier, if FIFA include 2009 UEFA Championship, then we will see new FIFA best players of
Inka Grings, if not we will see Marta, Marta, Marta.

I think Marta should definetly win. Like I said, no one has as much passion of the game as she does. She has practiced so hard and is so talented. She deserves to win.

Yes, Marta has a lot of passion and is very talented, but if we compared what Inka has done this year with what Marta has done this year, Inka takes it.

I don't exactly know who Inka Grings is, but I'm guessing shes pretty good. I know for sure that Marta is going to win, but I wish both of them good luck!!!

I completely agree. Rampone got absolutely robbed this year, I think, the same way that Solo got robbed last year. If Marta wins again, I might just pitch a fit. She's a great player, but I really think that, when it comes to the women's game, FIFA is looking more at flash and big names than players who have done something spectacular for their club, their country, women's soccer, and themselves this year (Wambach's 100th goal in her hometown after a year rehabbing from a broken leg, Rampone leading the WNT and being thrown into a coaching role with NJ, then taking them to the championship). I do wonder what they've been watching (and what they've been missing!) to have judged Marta worthy of the title after that Solo did last year, and to leave players with standout years off the list entirely this time around. To be completely honest, I'm disgusted with this list, as well as the traditional lack of defenders and goalkeepers FIFA selects.

christie rampone!! i hate this list. Camille Abily should have been on the list, and I prefer Ramona Bachmann over Iwabuchi

I agree, WHERE IS SOLO!!!!!! SHE DESERVES IT THE MOST but if it's not her it has to be Marta.

Okay...First of all there are nominees on that list who I absolutely not see there..why is Marta on this list again?? yes and even with winning the EUROS..wondering why is Prinz on that List?
Why is Hope Solo NOT on this list?
Questions...who only can be answered if we know who gives the votes for the Nominees...
Every Coach,Player and Captain of Football Teams give the Vote
well there are some names more familiar in Womens Football /Soccer than others...

I am telling since years, that it is absolutely not tp explain why there are only 10 Womens nominated but 20 or this year even 23 Men?? And I guess it should be another Category for the FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year! for the male and female part!

I really doubt that any other than a Gerrman Player will get the award.. NOT becos I am from Germany..nooo but becos they won the EUROs , they are the World Cup Holders..and now they are second in the World!
So probably Grings will get the award....

But for all those you think, that the Player most consistent in the last year..and most valuzable not only for her WPS Team but also for her National Team and this although she has been struggling with her Knee injury the whole season..should finally be honoured and get the Award...... well KELLY SMITH..
