WPS history was made yesterday (July1) as the Chicago Red Stars notched the first come-from-behind victory over the Washington Freedom in a midweek match-up. Freedom forward Abby Wambach opened the scoring in the 34th minute. But the Red Stars scored two second-half goals for their first 3 points in nine games. Cristiane ended the Red Stars' 451-minute scoreless streak in the 48th minute. Lindsay Tarpley recorded the game winner in the 61st. This moves the Red Stars into fifth place in the WPS Standings, while the Freedom hold onto fourth.

Sky Blue FC and Boston Breakers will kick off the Fourth of July at Yurcak Field at 4pm ET, 1pm PT. Sky Blue FC (3-6-3) currently sits in sixth place with 12 points in the WPS Standings while the Breakers (5-4-3) hold second.

The Freedom will play again Sunday against the Los Angeles Sol in the FSC game of the week (6pm ET, 3pm PT). The game will also be webcast.

To wrap up the weekend, FC Gold Pride and Saint Louis Athletica will meet for the second time this season. The Pride are currently in last place in the standings with 12 points, while the Athletica hold third with 17 points.

If Gold Pride wins in against Saint Louis, how many points will they get? Or does the amount of goals you score count?

It's always 3 points for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. Goals scored can figure in tiebreakers, though, if two teams have the same number of standings points.

I want St. Louis to win and hoping for a Sky Blue win so Athletica can get ahead of the Breakers.
Also I want the Sol to win so the Freedom won't pass St. Louis.

All right-thinking WPS fans should be rooting against LA just in the hope that the final standings will be less of an embarrassment. In any case, if Athletica wins, the Freedom can't pass them, regardless.

Thank you, Fox Soccer and WPS for game webcasts! Economically, I'm in a bit of a crunch, so I had to sacrifice my cable box to reduce my monthly expenditures (sniff sniffle). But I did keep my internet connection, so I was able to catch the Sol/Freedom webcast.

Aside from the injuries, that was an enjoyable match with a couple of post-dings and some good crosses. I was SO hoping the game wouldn't end in a 0-0 tie, so lo and behold... Marta struck again.

I agree, I was hoping I wasn't the only one rooting against LA. I'm just so tired of seeing them win ALL THE TIME. Living in Idaho, I'm not in the lucky position to be able to go see live games, but seriously, when one team in the league has such a distinct advantage and seems to win no matter what, it makes me not want to see certain games anyway. I don't think its very good for the league. Other games that don't involve LA are much more exciting to watch and less predictable.

I was very happy to see Athletica win, they have improved so much and deserve a shot in the playoffs.
