Women's Professional Soccer

Just watched the game against LA on 6-21 and I thought it was a terrible game for the Gold Pride for 2 reasons. Good things first though: the offense was played well and as best they could considering they got no help, Sinclair is always great and plays well with Milbrett, and, though she could have been better early on, Barnhart really saved their butts in the second half. But, I agree with a comment I saw recently on here: the coaching sucks so much. That is the number one reason why they lost, and why they are now falling near the bottom of the rankings. Why is Montoya not subbing more? Why did Weimer sit on the bench nearly the entire time? She is one of the team's best players, and it was so obvious the offense needed a rest, and what does Montoya do? Puts her in - for the last 5 minutes of the game. Nice. Number 2 reason: the defense really isn't great. I don't know what it is, they seem slow (except for Buehler) and everything gets by them, but also, does Dew play anything but dirty? Seriously defense, step up.

The coach plays that way with the intention of having fast outside backs to get up the wings and have more attackers. However, when kandice wilson got hurt, it kind of defeated the purpose of the formation because there wasn't anyone else to replace her...my opinion.

You hit the nail on the head(or whatever that expression is). Montoya should sub. He has subs, why not use them?
I didn't even see Weimer go in in the last 5 minutes because I was too frustrated to watch the rest of the game by....about 70 minutes.
I know Weimer, she is a great player, she will get Gold Pride out of their rutt since Wilson got hurt.
Montoya, hear us now, sub people in

After watching the Pride against St. Louis yesterday Ashley's comments still hold true. Montoya's brand of soccer is boring - most of the time the ball is on the feet of the defense with an occasional long ball to no-one in particular. It was amazing how much energy was created when Brandi and Sissi entered the pitch. All of a sudden there was spirit, enthusiasm, aggressive play... but too little too late. I wonder what Ian Sawyer is doing these days - took the CyberRays to the league championship perhaps he could turn this team around. Brandi, Tiffany and Sissi need playing time to show the younger players what real aggressive and scoring soccer is all about.

Totally agree, though it was a hard game for me to watch because I'm also a St Louis fan! Hoping Gold Pride will do better next season...... I hate that exciting players like Brandi, Sissi, and many others on the team are sort of being forced to play boring soccer.

One of the reasons the defense is lacking is because of the hip injury suffered to the initial starting right back, her name is slipping my mind. She was really really important to FCGP and when Marta ended her season 3 games in from an unnecessary hip check FCGP kind of imploded
