I think that womens football ( soccer :-) ) and the players have made huge progress in the last years. Tthe US-Girls have been for a long time the major team in the whole world with all the professional support they had right from the beginning. Young girls were trained and build up at the colleges and got a nearly pro-treatment right from the start. In oher countries, the girls only had the opportunity to train 2-3 night in the week and had to play at younger ages against boys. The times have changed already but still there is a long way to come.. so as seen in England with the deferral of the summer league. They are only making very small steps over there and even here in Germany still there is no professional womens football playing. so it is absolutely understandable that the womens are signing contracts in the USA - going to play at the WPS not only to earn money but to increase their skills and to focus on playing football every day as a full time job. with these oppurtunies womens football are becoming more attractive.. well the other side is..the usa has lots of really good playing women themselves, but there are only 11 on the pitch! still the US players are on high level but there is more competition nowadays and the world of womens football is getting closer. one can see that also at the nationaltournaments as in Europe ( EURO2009 or Algarve Cup) or the WorldCup in China ... a few years ago, there have only been 2,3 max. 4 teams in the world playing on high level so as USA, Germany than Brazil and Sweden.. these days all the teams are getting closer.. in Europe Germany is not longer the unbeaten and unaccessible power, who runs away with every trophy... this is finally a good development! And the attraction of the WPS so as the former WUSA has increased because of the foreign players moving over to play there.. now fans from all over the world are supporting the WPS and are getting more in contact with the whole game and the several excellent players from all countries. A League so as the WPS is needed!! even if some of the good players (so as some of the US Girls) are getting "drown in the crowd"

The WUSA was much the same way ... most of the international players signed were forwards & attacking mids, so the foreign players used to dominate the scoring charts. It's not that our gals ain't scoring, it's just that we've never been dependent on 1 or 2 players to be the scoring leaders so we've got lots of US players on WPS teams who have scored 1 or 2 goals. It doesn't help that Abby had to sit out this weekend. I bet Lilly will be scoring more as she gets more fit.

3 of the 4 goals that were made this past weekend were from International players, but the US players are supposed to be "Extraordinary?" Before you think that I'm from another county and anti-American, let me just tell you that I am an American born and bred. About the goals I'm just sayin, what's up with our heroic national team members? Where are they? Invisible, I think.

hi milly, I taped the game as well and a copy is on its way to New York to a fellow fan over there along with a programme from the final which i know she will enjoy. I dont go to Prem league games as I enjoy my grass roots football, and of course my Arsenal Ladies when I can get to see them at home or away. Have just done 3 games in a row..County Cup Final then Chelsea and then the FA Cup..just cant get to the Everton game..doh!!! I have also twittered with an Acton Ladies player who was at the County Cup Final and I aid I will try to get to watch them too. But ALFC comes first! that and along with other team Luton Town who now drop to grass roots ..Blue Square but its football I love it..enjoyed Wembley with them cple weeks ago! Having said that Im watching the Chelsea game now and I do watch any live tv matches...good to hear from a fellow supporter and fan of ladies football...fave Arsenal Ladies player ? I think Niamh Fahey/Ciara Grant and Faye White then the rest!
