i just read that article and thinks its pretty sad that gabara would pick out a player. i think alex singer is one of the up and coming stars. i think she had a good season and hung tuff while the freedom went through major changes .i also thought she had a very good game, coming into the offense serving the ball to abby , ashot on goal and some good crosses, but the mids were not there or any where else.i thought its really sad to on one person as fault in a game. he should be ashamed.

Wait, who did Gabarra throw under the bus? Can someone provide a link to the comment/quote?

That's sports for you. A team is not one player; look at any other team sport - football there are interceptions, in baseball there are errors and homeruns hit off of some of the greatest pitchers, soccer goals are scored. Teams score goals and defend goals together. No one player should take the blame.

Look at Bill Buckner, hall of famer - one of the greatest baseball players of our time. Buckner was a key member of the Red Sox team in 1986. He hit 8 home runs that September, with 22 RBIs and a .340 average, missing only three games. He drove in over 100 runs for the season. In Game 5 of the Championship Series when the Red Sox faced elimination, he singled to start their ninth inning rally, which was capped off by Dave Henderson's famous home run.

But his imfamy remains in the one error, when the ball rolled through his legs in the world series against the Mets.

There are valuable lessons to be learned here. My hope is that the coaches, the players- especially the rookies - take the high road and see the good things that happened for this team. You're right Bill, you cannot blame one person and it is disappointing to read the comments coming out of the Freedom Org.
barry wise: I've read a bunch of the articles and blogs around the Sky Blue game and many people believe that Alex Singer is a phenomenal young, up and coming player. Gabarra put her in the game to generate plays and from what I saw she did. Francielle get a shot off, but what some might have overlooked is the fact that many of the players had to scramble out of position to cover the mid field ( Abby tried to cover also!). That chaos caused the goal... but it was not for lack of trying to defend - the ball should never have even gotten that far in the first place.

Anyway folks. I am not an expert but my kids and I really enjoyed watcging and getting to know the players.

Yeah, very rarely in a game of this nature can overall performance be blamed on a single player. Ya gotta think, who's calling the shots...?

I just thought it was really interesting that a coach would throw a player out in the news and blame the games outcome on her. When a coach cant find a starting line up all season long maybe you need a new coach. I think if you are going to blame someone you could put the blame on a lot of the team for not doing there jobs, where was the midfield where were the goals? I just think its a really low thing to throw one player under the bus. Also i think the comment that college players suffer burn out and reach plateaus is just a rediculous thing to say, everyone is different.I think that maybe the coach is suffering burnout from coaching to many teams.

I know, it very frustrating when they win the ball but play around the back line, like forever, that kind of play should stop, they should have attacking minded.
More frustrated, when leading 2 or more goals, we let the oppenent level the score.
I hope the system will changes next season.

Exactly... Freedom centermids sit back so passively allowing the other team to do whatever they want. The backline needs work, but i think people are overlooking the poor midfield pressure and putting all the criticism towards the very young backline. Very frustrating to watch. The mids sit right on top of the backline ... literally a few feet away. Then if the Freedom win the ball, it takes forever to get an attack going because the whole teams back there.

I too was disappointed with SB having all day to run their offense. What's the back line (and keeper) going to do when the Freedom mids sit back and SB is able to serve up ball after ball into the box? Sauerbrunn was a rock back there, and McLeod had at least 2 or 3 reaction saves she shouldn't have had to make, but it could very well have been 4 or 5 to 1. The Freedom need some d-mids who can break up offenses in the middle third, a la DC's Clyde Simms and Benny Olsen. Is there someone like that on the roster? I was impressed with Huffman's aggressiveness and creativity in her first game back from ACL surgery, though I haven't seen her play before and don't know if that's a role she's suited to. She does wear #14, though...

Well i have to agree with Cassie and Footy Fan. The midfielders did not show up for the game. the middle of the field was wide open the whole game. Possession looked to me like 70/30. The midfield just does not seem to click, LL and Sawa are like oil and water. Honestly i really dont see what the big deal is about Sawa , so shes played every min. of every game was that a good thing? Maybe it was in her contract. I just think there where many other options and for someone to play every min she did not produce. I would much rather see Kreiger in that defending mid position or Gilbeau. Both who can go up.
