At 8:00pm on October 23, 2009, Steady Eddie said…: She agonized over the decision but it was one she thought about over a period of time. Going into the camp simply solidified the decision for her. Even though she received positive feedback from the coaches, she determined that the process was something she did not want to continue. The World Cup is in two years and she felt that it was important that Pia have the opportunity to develop a younger player especially given the way she was feeling.

She felt she had accomplished all she wanted to and it was better to go out on her terms then to find herself in the situation other (not to be named) national team players now find themselves in--wanting to continue but not being invited into camps. She is ready for the next phase of her life.

She will continue to support soccer and do things connected with it but she has other things she wants to pursue. It is a hard thing to understand that about yourself when you have devoted nearly all your life to one thing. I am proud of her for having the courage to see that for herself and she knows her family will continue to support her.
