Freeeeeee Agency begins!!!

Wow - it has been a LONG time since I blogged, and it was high time to fix that. Maybe it's because when I blog, I write a novel instead.. Hmmm....sounds like that's MY problem.

Anyhow - given the interest and questions we've received in response to the free agent's list being published today, I thought I'd talk a bit about player transactions at WPS.

September has been a BUSY month - wow - with a LOT of player transaction activity. Two drafts for the expansion teams, option exercises happenin… Continue

Regular Season Champion watch begins.....

A scene from the WPS offices. A staff meeting?

HARDLY. More like a pizza lunch, everyone gathered in the conference room behind laptops as we multitask with work stuff, AND listening to the LA Sol v Athletica game & following it on match tracker. Amanda Vandervort… Continue

Flying monkeys at 3 o'clock

If you were driving down highway 880 near the Alameda exit in Santa Clara sometime after 3pm PT this past Sunday, you might have been hit by a flying monkey. It was the one that had been sitting on Mary Abigail Wambach's back for the past few weeks, that was flung into orbit at around 3:25pm when a thundering header off a Cat Whitehill serve hit the back of the net. Holy Cow - did you see that?!.

Well, in case you missed it, get your DVR set to FSC this coming Friday and catch theContinue

Something pink, something red, something yellow and something blue

Well, Easter may be over, but the days before and since have certainly been colorful!

Could pink be making a comeback? Dissed as a diminutive, Jonsson wears it and has an blinder vs. Washington. Barnhart wears it and gets a point on the road at Sky Blue... and, so that the third game wouldn't be without a goalkeeper in pink (even an over-the-hill-one), I wore a bright pink coat to the Boston-St. Louis game.

And speaking of that game, I saw the Boston Breakers' fan section (hanging out in an ar… Continue

Top 10 List of Things We Learned in Week 2

With our first full weekend behind us, this week has been about debriefing what we learned from the home openers for the Bay Area Gold Pride, St. Louis Athletica and New Jersey..... and trying to give as much info to the 3 teams remaining who will open this coming weekend or the weekend after. Boston and Washington both have their home openers, and Sky Blue FC in NJ has their second game at TD Bank ballpark out in Somerset, NJ. Met with the operations directors yesterday, the coaches today, and… Continue

Hi, we were the pair who talked to you at the ticket table on Sunday! Sorry, I was so out of it. We had just finished our drive from Michigan and I was a little tired. Thanks for commenting on our jerseys. I always enjoy watching the passion Tiffeny brings to the game. I wish I had been more on the ball on Sunday so I could have told you the following in person, but here will have to do:

When the WUSA folded, I made a promise to myself that if a women's soccer league was ever formed again, I would support it. The Chicago franchise became my team out of default at the league's inception, but I'm so fortunate that was the case! I've made a point of telling my ticket rep how much we enjoyed our experience as Red Stars season ticket holders. Even though the results on the field weren't what anyone in the organization wanted, I think the season was still a success. For my demographic, at a lot of sporting events it feels like we are a marginalized fan base. I never felt that at the Red Stars games, though.

I've noticed in the adverts, and official press for this league a similar type of inclusive feeling and I'm thankful the league has chosen to focus on the skill and professionalism of the players. These are strong and confident young women, who are good at their jobs--no matter if they look like the girl next door or not. I think that's a very valuable lesson to learn, no matter who you are.

This league is going to work. I think you have a great business plan in staying focused on growing a fan base, rather than trying to attract a particular crowd. It's a good value and a quality experience.

Thanks again for saying hello.

Good job!! Cool to have some visibility into all the things going on as you launch the league this spring. One issue that keeps coming up in conversations is the distinction between roster players and developmental players. club penguin cheats

Hi Mary,
I just wanted to say (well this is kind of korny but...) one of my biggest memories from one of the first US Women's National Teams games I went to when I was little was when the US was playing Australia at Rutgers in NJ in 1995 I think. I yelled your named at the top of my lungs and you turned around and waved to me. I was so excited and talked about it for weeks and weeks. So nearly 15 years later, I just want to say, thanks for making my day!!!

Hi Mary, Just wanted to say it was great meeting you this past Saturday at the Freedom game. I was one of the fans down on the field that you stopped to say hello to. I hope you enjoyed the game and the atmosphere (although I wish my team had won). The Freedom organization really knows how to take care of their fans and they create a fantastic game day experience! The little things they do for their fans are fantastic (reception at the home opener and then the after party get together on Saturday are just a few examples). I am so excited that the league is back and I hope to continue supporting it for a long time. PS - Loved the pink shirt!!

Dear LJ: totally understandable. We asked SFC if we could do a 1-time only move from Sunday to Saturday to accommodate Easter Sunday (our teams didn't want to have their home openers on a holiday). We'll be back on Sunday nights / afternoons PT as usual from now on :)

Love the site, the fans' corner and the blogs. Would love to see some RSS feeds available on these pages to make it easier to find the new news.
Thanks for doing such a great job with the league. Good luck this weekend.
