Chicago Red Stars A look back on 2009...

2009 was a great year, but to make sure you're all caught up and ready for the 2010 season, here's what you missed: The first few months that led up to the inaugural game were a whirlwind. We signed people from overseas, acquired US WNT players, and made our best decisions at the 2009 WPS draft. Tons of fans followed our journey through exhibition games and friendlies so ensure the support of the Red Stars in Chicago... It wasn't until the first game at Toyota Park, that we were able to really… Continue

JR Salazar Santos FC: South America's female football powerhouse

Pop quiz. What club do the best Brazilian-based players in Women's Professional Soccer go to when training in the offseason? Hint number one: in English, their club nickname is "The Mermaids of Vila Belmiro." Hint number two: their male counterparts are managed by somebody whose last name resembles a tiny European monarcy. Hint number three: It's in Sao Paulo State, and it's not Corinthians, Palmeiras, Ponte Preta, Guarani, Portuguesa or Sao Paulo FC. All right, those were hints three through… Continue

JR Salazar 2009 WPS Power Rankings: Week 15

In a league like the WPS, we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all footballers are created equal, that they are endowed by the footballing gods that be with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of postseason happiness.

As the Los Angeles Sol perch on the doorstep of winning the Women's Professional Soccer regular season championship, the teams below jostle for the other three playoff spots up for grabs.

JR Salazar 2009 WPS Power Rankings: Week 11

In this week's edition of the Power Rankings, the Los Angeles Sol are at the top, while a few other teams go through the motions.

Let's take a look, shall we?

1. LOS ANGELES SOL

Ahhh, two wins and a draw...not bad. Now that's what you call "Home Cooking."

A string of three home matches in nine days saw the LA Sol inch closer to clinching a playoff berth by taking seven points out of a possible nine.

But in order to cook, you need a c

Alondra Sol and Red Stars play to a 1-1 tie

The Chicago Red Stars came down to LA looking for a point - or three - they're first since they last defeated Boston 4-0 over a month ago, and they came away with a single point in a very dramatic fashion. On a cloudy, chilly night in Carson, most people probably just wanted to stay warm in their homes, but both teams came out ready to play (give credit to the 3,832 brave fans who came out to support). Just six minutes into the match, Chicago had a close chance of taking the early lead. Lindsa… Continue

JR Salazar Los Angeles 1, Chicago 1: LA ReSoliency Snatches Win from Red Stars

The Chicago Red Stars looked set to be the first team to win a match at the Home Depot Center Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Sol. They had failed to score even once in over 300 match minutes, and there was an urgent feeling in the dressing room to come out and stun the best team in Women's Professional Soccer.

And it looked to be that way late...until the cruel reality for Emma Hayes' club was realized: "You cannot spell RELIABILITY without A-B-I-L-Y."

JR Salazar Los Angeles 1, Chicago 1: A Play-by-Play (And Other Miscellany)

T-120 minutes to kickoff: This is the second of three straight home games for the Los Angeles Sol, who defeated St. Louis Athletica.

T-79: There are some low clouds tonight, with a slight drizzle coming in. Out of all the teams that Los Angeles has played at home for the first time, Chicago is the only team remaining. They are the bottom on the WPS Power Rankings this week.

T-74: National Anthem warm-up. The USA Men's National Team is playing tonight at San Jose. No, not the

Cat Whitehill We keep coming back

One more win and we have the GOLD! I was so excited to watch our girls go out there, come from behind, and SCORE goals against Japan! We can now say it was a blessing that we lost to Norway in the first match because we already knew what it meant to be down early, but this time we knew how to come back. Ang is the hero! How awesome is she playing! I am so proud of her especially with how hard she has worked thi… Continue
