Yes I realize it may be a bit of a biased choice for favorite player, but at this point that can’t be helped.

So, congratulations Carrie Dew on being selected as Tiffany Weimer’s Favorite WPS Player.

Even though Dew already knows this and is totally overwhelmed with joy, I thought the need to share this award with the rest of the world.

So one might wonder why a crafty little midget would be so awe struck by a giant rock of a defender. Well that’s easy- she is my roommate. Just kidding. She’s one of the best at what she does and it’s simple as that.

If I had to describe Dew as a player in one word it would be composed. I have never seen a player so calm all the time. She could receive the worst ball from one of us and some how take it down ever so gently and play it as if nothing crazy had ever happened.

She wins a slide tackle and gracefully rises to her feet, almost in slow motion, to play the ball and slow the game back down for us. Or she tracks down a forward, wins the ball back and as if she were on vacation plays it back to our goalkeeper without even breaking a sweat. (Exaggerated a bit, but you get the point).

Don’t get me wrong she is fierce when she has to be. She’s not someone I enjoy playing against because she can tackle. I rarely ever see her lose a tackle.

I feel confident when she is on the field with me. I love how she simplifies the game and slows it down when we need it.

More important than her play, she is a great teammate. Dew has a huge heart and always has your back. She doesn’t like when people mess with her friends and that is someone I need on my team.

As I told her after she scored her first WPS goal against Sky Blue last month, she is a dream come true. I feel privileged to have the chance to play with her, as I’m sure she feels the same about me.

So, again, congratulations Caroline…you da best!

Carrie Dew deserves that all the way. She's a great defender, and an overall amazing player. She's someone who I and many others look up to.

I agree with both composed and fierce! When the Irish played Penn State last year we watched on TV as she took a hard kicked ball square to the face... Carrie didn't even flinch. She's also a real class act off the field and is sure to go far in this league and beyond.

These two are a couple of my favorite players in the WPS. Carrie Dew deserves a callup to the full National Team. I've watched this kid play at Notre Dame. She IMO is one of the best defenders in womens soccer. period. Why Pia hasn't opened her eyes to her, I have no idea. Weimer plays the type of soccer I love to watch. Crafty moves and raw skill. These two kids should be on the National Team.
